Wheelchair Players Positioning Rules Clarification

The oche

  1. needs to be tape, as a raised oche restricts the movement of a wheelchair player
  2. We recommend the edge of the tape nearest the darts board is the actual oche line as it easier for the player, ref, caller/marker to see if it is breached

Player Position at the Oche

With a standard Wheelchair both of the back wheels of the wheelchair (where they touch the ground) must not breach the oche line.

The Players feet must not touch the ground in front of the oche. You must also sit properly back in your seat, so the base of your torso is behind the oche, not perched on the edge

We recommend that the wheelchair is locked when you are in your throwing position so you do not move forward and breach the oche line.

If you have a non standard wheelchair such as a motorized chair/scooter then your positioning will have to be looked at individually. The basic principle is that your torso must be behind the oche as if you were standing behind the oche. Please contact us for individual questions, see the photo examples below and if you have one of your own send it to us to show.

Below are some examples of the correct position and breaching the oche line.

Player remember if your wheels breach the oche or your feet are on the ground in front of the oche, the caller/marker/ref will call a no throw.

Players positioning of feet and body

The players feet must not touch the ground in front of the oche, they must be on the foot rest or behind the oche

The player must sit in the seat so their bottom is back fully in the seat properly. They must not perch on the front of the seat.

There are photos below to illustrate this

Players important a no throw will be called if you either put your feet down in front of the oche or perch on the edge of your seat.

No: feet on the floor in front of oche

No, perched on the edge of seat

Yes feet on rest, off the floor and sat in seat properly

Yes feet on rest, off the floor and sat back in the seat, leaning forward
